Colbert must have been stuch in his liberal echo chamber for so long that he has forgotten that all of America does not see things the way he does. In cringeworthy fashion, Colbert has transplanted his same skewed leftist perspective to the much larger platform of CBS’ The Late Show.
Colbert’s predecessor on the show David Letterman may be a liberal, but he never stooped to making the kind of smears against Republicans that Stephen does now five nights a week. In a recent episode he made a particular nasty dig at Trump’s administration, saying, “As so many things happened, I really missed the chance to talk about some big stuff—especially the exit of White House strategist, and Proactiv ‘before’ model, Steve Bannon.”
He continued, “Technically, I guess, Bannon wasn’t fired because on the day he left the administration issued a statement that said, ‘White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Steve Bannon have mutually agreed today would be Steve’s last day.’ Yes, it was a ‘mutual agreement.’ The same way my college girlfriend and I ‘mutually agreed’ that she’d be happier having sex with Gary.”
Arriving at his liberal-pleasing punchline, Colbert then said about Bannon, “Yeah, he’s definitely taking it up to a higher level.” Raising his arm up for a Nazi salute, Colbert said, “And over here [and] somewhere up there.” Stephen then went as far as directly saying that President Trump is a dictator.
