The big story this Sunday was the media celebrating the bravery of NFL players to stand up against the American flag in order to protest President Donald Trump, inequality, racism and stuff. It was practically inescapable — and it made the crypto-liberals at ESPN giddy with the prospect of their agenda so fully enmeshing with the subject they’re supposed to be covering.
The whole thing, of course, was precipitated by Trump’s comments at a rally for Alabama Senate candidate Luther Strange during which the president asked the audience if they would “love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a b**** off the field right now?’”
While the whole thing may have resulted in an orgy of self-congratulation for every anthem-hater on the left and in the media (but I repeat myself), Trump was pretty busy honoring our nation’s real heroes — namely, families who have lost a son or daughter in combat.
According to The Daily Wire, the president officially declared Sept. 24, 2017 as “Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day,” honoring families who have experienced the ultimate sacrifice at the same time the NFL was dishonoring the flag.
“As we solemnly observe Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day, we honor and extend our deepest gratitude to the families of military service members who gave their last full measure of devotion to our country,” a press release from the White House read.
“Gold Star families have paid the ultimate price for our Nation’s freedom with the life of their loved ones. Our grateful Nation grieves with them in their loss, but also shares their pride in the selfless service of their sons and daughters
“Our country is built on the sacrifices of men and women who have willingly raised their hand to defend our Nation and its security,” the pronouncement continued.
“As members of our Armed Forces take an oath to protect our freedoms and liberty, they understand the gravity of their commitment to defend our way of life. And when that commitment results in the ultimate sacrifice, we come together as a Nation to walk beside the devoted families left behind and help them shoulder the vast absence they forever bear. Their loved ones did not die in vain. They gave of themselves to protect and defend the freedoms we all enjoy. Despite their grief, these families bravely move forward with dignity and grace.”
Firstly, well-done to the Trump White House. This is something that’s always welcome, no matter what the occasion.
Secondly, while one might question the timing of it as a political move, it illustrates exactly why the left still can’t grasp Donald Trump’s victory. As the media was busy celebrating the disrespect of the American flag — a reaction directly precipitated by their rage at the president — Trump was busy honoring the families of fallen heroes.
Now, let me ask you: do you think America supports the former or the latter? The left thinks it’s the former. And yet, they wonder why Donald J. Trump is currently in residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Perhaps most importantly, they can’t possibly see how the two are related.
