So much for that.
After claiming electing her husband would be the first time in her adult life she was proud of her country, Michelle Obama presumably carried that pride forward for his two terms in office.
But now that Donald Trump is about to take office, Michelle Obama is back on the “criticize America” bandwagon.
On the stump, her famous line was, “When they go low, we go high.”
While the liberal pres lapped it up, it was never true.
And rather than work to unify the country after a bitter election, Michelle Obama is using her position to gin up division and hatred.
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the soon-to-be former First Lady declared that now is what it feels like to have no hope.
“FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA SAYS AMERICANS ARE NOT FEELING HOPEFUL AFTER THE ELECTION OF DONALD TRUMP.
THE FIRST LADY WAS ASKED BY OPRAH WINFREY WHETHER SHE THINKS THAT HER HUSBAND’S ADMINISTRATION HAD ACHIEVED HIS PROMISE OF HOPE FOR AMERICA.
“YES. I DO,” SHE SAID. “BECAUSE WE FEEL THE DIFFERENCE NOW. SEE, NOW, WE ARE FEELING WHAT NOT HAVING HOPE FEELS LIKE. YOU KNOW. HOPE IS NECESSARY. IT’S A NECESSARY CONCEPT AND BARACK DIDN’T JUST TALK ABOUT HOPE BECAUSE HE THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A NICE SLOGAN TO GET VOTES. HE AND I AND SO MANY BELIEVE, WHAT ELSE DO YOU HAVE WHEN YOU DO NOT HAVE HOPE?”
MICHELLE OBAMA ADDS THAT SHE THINKS HER HUSBAND HAD BEEN A CALMING VOICE FOR THE COUNTRY, COMPARING HIM TO A PARENT CALMING A CHILD THAT HAD BUMPED HIS HEAD.
“I FEEL LIKE BARACK HAS BEEN THAT FOR THE NATION, IN WAYS THAT PEOPLE WILL COME TO APPRECIATE. HAVING A GROWNUP IN THE WHITE HOUSE WHO CAN SAY TO YOU IN TIMES OF CRISIS AND TURMOIL, ‘HEY IT’S GOING TO BE OK,’” SHE SAID.”
Not only did she claim America was left with no hope, but she implicitly insulted Trump by labeling her husband as a “grown up” in the White House.
Critics point out that if America is left with no hope, it is because of her husband’s failed administration.
He campaigned with all his might for Hillary Clinton so she could continue his policies.
And on Election Day, the American people chose Donald Trump’s message of change over continuing the status quo.
Trump took the high road in responding, saying the First Lady didn’t mean it the way it came out, but he gently pointed out she could have been referring to the past.
While Trump is being gracious in his victory, many Americans are upset that Michelle Obama would such an incendiary public remark.
