President Donald Trump has called on the mainstream media to report on former President Barack Obama’s administration approving the sale of U.S. uranium to Russia, calling that “the real Russia story.”
While hosting Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló at the White House on Thursday to discuss the relief efforts in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria, Trump told reporters that the media should be focusing on the uranium deal rather than the investigations into alleged Russia interference in the 2016 presidential election.
“I think that’s your Russia story. That’s your real Russia story. The real story is uranium,” Trump said. “Not a story where they talk about collusion and there was none. It was a hoax.”
“Your real Russia story is uranium and how they got all of that uranium — the vast percentage of what we have. That, to me, is one of the big stories of the decade. Not just now, of the decade,” he said.
“The problem is that mainstream media does not want to cover that story because that affects people that they protect,” Trump said. “So they don’t like covering that story. But the big story is uranium and how Russia got 20 percent of our uranium and, frankly, it’s a disgrace and it’s a disgrace that the fake news won’t cover. It’s so sad.”
Trump was referring to the Obama administration approving in 2010 the partial sale of Canadian mining company Uranium One to Rosatom, a Russian nuclear company.
As reported by The Hill, the sale, which was approved by the Hillary Clinton-run State Department, resulted in the Russian company receiving 20 percent of the United States’ uranium.
According to The Hill, prior to the Obama administration approving the deal, the FBI had gathered “substantial evidence that Russian nuclear industry officials were engaged in bribery, kickbacks, extortion and money laundering designed to grow Vladimir Putin’s atomic energy business inside the United States.”
“Federal agents used a confidential U.S. witness working inside the Russian nuclear industry to gather extensive financial records, make secret recordings and intercept emails as early as 2009 that showed Moscow had compromised an American uranium trucking firm with bribes and kickbacks in violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, FBI and court documents show,” The Hill added.
Around the same time the sale took place, the Clinton Foundation reportedly received millions of dollars in donations from Russian nuclear officials.
Trump tweeted Thursday morning that the media won’t investigate the uranium deal surrounding Obama and Clinton.
Uranium deal to Russia, with Clinton help and Obama Administration knowledge, is the biggest story that Fake Media doesn't want to follow!
