The founder of the Podesta Group and the brother of John Podesta (Hillary Clinton campaign chairman) Tony Podesta has resigned from his position at the lobbying firm from White House Special Counsel.
Fox News reports (as we mentioned in a previous article) that Podesta and his company are being investigated by Mueller. The Pedestal Group was one of the six companies that worked on the campaign European Centre for a Modern Ukraine led by Paul Manafort.
Manafort, who briefly served as Donald Trump’s campaign manager last summer, was formally accused by Mueller on charges that go back to his work at European Centre for a Modern Ukraine.
According to Podesta, Full operational and financial control to the company will be given to the company’s CEO Kimberly Fritts.
“[Tony] was very magnanimous and said, “This is an amazing group of people,” a source spoke of Podesta’s comments. He also told the company that he “doesn’t intend to go quietly, or learn how to play golf.”
Even though Podesta turned his firm into a heavy hitter, troubles began for the company when they came under the investigation of Mueller. And maybe as a result Pedestal Group has lost many clients who decided that they want to cut the ties with the company which brought in an estimated $4.8 million in the third quarter of 2017, down from $6.1 million in the third quarter of 2016.
The accusation states that Manafort and his colleague Rick Gates “generated tens of millions of dollars in income as a result of their Ukraine work.”
“In order to hide Ukraine payments from United States authorities, from approximately 2006 through at least 2016, Manafort and Gates laundered the money through scores of United States and foreign corporations, partnerships and bank accounts,” he states.
Manafort became a part of Trump’s campaign when he joined in March of 2016 but later departed when his financial dealings were being questioned. Looks like the Pedesta brothers will go down together with Manafort.
