President Trump shocked his Republican base last week when he seemed to endorseObama-era gun control proposals.
During a bipartisan meeting with lawmakers regarding gun control laws, the president signaled his support for legislation mandating universal background checks, among other restrictions.
Just days later, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) was at the forefront of a Democratic response hailing Trump’s remarks as “a lesson for the Congress that Republicans need to finally allow Congress” to pass these reforms.
“On Wednesday, President Trump signaled support for many of these proposals. I hope that can be a lesson for the Congress that Republicans need to finally allow Congress to pass these commonsense measures.”
Just one MASSIVE problem there, Dianne.
The reforms to which she’s referring, the ones that Trump endorsed, were first introduced by Sens. Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) back when Obama was president.
That legislation was already brought before Congress back at that time, when DEMOCRATS controlled the Senate.
And, guess what?
The DEMOCRATS failed to pass the bill.
It wasn’t Republicans standing in the way of these reforms, because Republicans didn’t have the numbers to do so at that time.
Get your facts straight, Dianne!
